The designs created in Bauhaus’s metal
workshop were milestones in the history
of tubular furniture. More so, because
from the beginning they offered the
possibilities of industrial production with
the aim of realising it as quickly as
possible in close co-operations with
suitable production facilities.
Against this background, the cooperation
between Bauhaus and L.&C.
Arnold Stendal began at the end of the
1920s with the realisation of various
furniture designs in steel and wood that
were already included in the Arnold
catalogue at the time.
contor was compiled as a compressed
programme with designs from a time when
Bauhaus’s ideas also offered the conditions
for quite revolutionary changes in office and
contract interiors.
This combination of models, quite classic by
today’s standards, consists of desk ST 2000,
swivel chairs 2601/2602, swivel stool 2603
and Bauhaus shelf 3620.
All the furniture is from the Arnold Bauhaus
Collection, which contains important
designs by major representatives of Bauhaus
such as Marcel Breuer as well breathing
new life into old, rediscovered workshop
drawings by unknown Bauhaus artists.
